What maintenance is required?

Very little. In most hard water areas the electrode, (biocide generator), will become scaled in the same way a kettle element scales up. An excess of scale will cause a drop in performance and a light on the control panel will indicate this. In this instance a simple de-scaling exercise will be required. Each new CAVion will be supplied with de-scaling instructions and suitable de-scaling agent. Replacement electrodes will also come with de-scaling agent.

How long do electrodes last?

Approximately 12 months, but this will vary according to use. Past experience indicates that an electrode is unlikely to last longer than 15 months. Electrodes are easily replaced, using the minimum of hand tools.

Is it safe to put heavy metals into water?

Copper and silver are not heavy metals they are transition metals. Most water supply systems use copper pipes, simply because copper has been found to be a biocide. Also, silver is recognised by the medical profession as a sterilising agent. So silver/copper ionisation is an ideal combination of bacteria control.

If it's so good, why isn't it more popular?

The exploitation of ionisation in the UK has been predominantly in the hands of small under-funded companies. They have had to compete for sales against the might of the chemical company giants, who see ionisation as a threat to their enormous water treatment market. Recent legislation against chemicals and the growing knowledge and confidence in ionisation, mean that it is only now being seen as a serious alternative. In years to come silver/copper ionisation technology will develop into a major water treatment system.

It seems incredible - does it work?

We know it works and in almost every case so far, it has worked extremely well. There is now enough case data now available to prove this. Hospitals do not, for obvious reasons, select any technology without thorough investigation. There are now a number of UK hospitals using ionisation, several of which have made considerable energy savings through lower stored water temperatures.

Silver/copper ionisation is to the uninformed an incredible phenomenon. Also because you cannot see the results of the treatment, it is harder to accept that it works, but it does.
From a sales point of view, selling the principle of ionisation is the first hurdle to overcome with the inexperienced potential purchaser.
Selling the product is somewhat easier after that!
